House of Sand

Today’s economy seems to be a massive sand castle, beautiful and eloquent and elaborate. I’ve already lived through the 1987, 2001, and 2008 crashes. Each had its own unique reason and as a society we seemingly came back stronger, wealthier, and better off. I’m not so sure. Yes, have more millionaires and billionaires than ever before. Yes, at least in the United States, it seems easier than ever to make a living doing what you want or at least like to do. Or maybe that’s me buying into the hustle culture hype.

It’s also become more expensive to pay for basic necessities. While we have an illusion of choice, the truth of the matter is that we’re all drones brainwashed to buying certain things. Our lifestyle has been raised to an almost unrealistic level, and we keep wanting more. At the same time, we keep avoiding our medicine creating new work arounds (e.g. crypto, inflation, et al) which creates an unsustainable present.

It’s not going to last… is it?
