Lithium Americas Corp (LAC) is a resource company focused on the development and production of lithium, a critical component in batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.
Lithium Americas has two significant lithium projects in its portfolio:
- Caucharí-Olaroz Lithium Project: Located in the Jujuy province of Argentina, this project is a joint venture between Lithium Americas (49% ownership) and Ganfeng Lithium (51% ownership), one of the world’s leading lithium producers. The Caucharí-Olaroz project is a large-scale lithium brine resource that is currently under construction, with production expected to begin in the near future. The project is expected to have a long mine life and will utilize conventional evaporation pond technology to produce lithium carbonate.
- Thacker Pass Lithium Project: Situated in northern Nevada, USA, Thacker Pass is a large-scale lithium clay resource that is currently in the advanced stages of development. The project has the potential to become a significant lithium producer in the United States, using a proprietary sulfuric acid leaching process to extract lithium from the clay deposits. This project is fully owned by Lithium Americas and aims to commence production in the coming years.
Lithium Americas is committed to sustainable development and responsible mining practices. The company’s approach to sustainability includes measures to minimize environmental impacts, engage with local communities, and ensure worker safety. Additionally, Lithium Americas actively explores innovative extraction technologies to improve the efficiency and environmental footprint of its operations.
