Real Estate is a feast or famine business. It’s all commission, so you have a lot of short-term thinking leading to short-term activity, yet very few build the kind of brand attention that keeps clients for life.
Walking home with my Irish Wolfhound tonight I kept thinking about community and how to better serve them. Thankfully, having this gorgeous and massive animal allows me to get lots of attention without much effort (aka marketing) and that has helped me get to know many of my neighbors. Doing this as a residential real estate agent would be the smartest thing you could do.
One strategy that I keep coming back to is getting to know your neighbors by adding value to them with very high quality companies that want to reach that demographic and giving away samples or free trials of those offerings. Then, within that care package, you put a business card… and here’s where it gets important. You circle back without trying to sell them on your shit. You simply keep adding value, keep staying top of mind, and keep circling back. Worst case, you have really awesome neighbors that love you. Best case, you get a ton of business because you’re top of mind awareness.
Obviously, if you tell them you’re a realtor because they ask, then by all means ask them about their house. Be interested to gain interest. I look at it like learning. I love to learn so every person I meet has something to teach me.
If you try this tactic out, let me know how it works for you.
